On February 19th 1942 Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. State representatives put pressure on President Roosevelt to take action against those of Japanese descent living in the US. US citizens feared another attack and war hysteria seized the country. "On December 7th 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. I know that she doesn't really look Japanese but. (it was in British Columbia Canada as well) it was a big issue in the Pacific Northwest, Horrible. Ummm well at that time, they did the horrible incarceration of Japanese citizens. Aren't the ghosts also trying to forcefully remove "ignorant people" (Alex and her friends) to make space for "destined holders" (the ghosts)? Only in this case they're being removed from their bodies. That said, the roll Alex is playing in that heritage may have nothing to do with the attacks on Native Americans by U.S. Native Americans may have been unwilling participants in their own genocide, but from a technical standpoint it couldn't happen without them. That's not typically something said to the aggressor in a situation. It also tells her not to resist, that it'll be over soon. I mean, it wasnt exactly the native americans who ccame over to america to genocide all the native americans. Wouldnt the thing make more sense if she wasnt native american? Native American just makes the most sense to me.

Personally, I don't think there's really a "right headcanon". I've seen other headcanons saying that she's Filipino or Black. I do like that fans inject their own preferences onto her so that she's not really one single race (well she's definitely not white), so that representation works for all groups Plus, Oregon has a pretty decent level of American Indian population. I think this might have more of a personal effect on Alex if she was also Native American. You will be a part of that heritage, Alex. The forceful removal of an ignorant people to make space for destined holders is a time-honored tradition in our still young country. "The island is famously named after Colonel Caleb Edwards for his glorious and triumphant slaughtering of countless families, during one of the great ethnic cleansings of the 20th century.
